For most mods, you’ll need to familiarize yourself with a variety of programs, such as Vortex/Mod Organizer 2, SKSE64, SSEdit, and more. That said, it’s your game! If you truly want to dive into modding, before even looking at what sort of mods you’d like, you need to learn how to mod your game. This is all to say that, if you have an experience anything like the rest of us, Skyrim will quickly become one of your favorite games, and is bound to provide years upon years of entertainment. Personally, before playing Skyrim on PC, I played it for years on the PS3 (with no mods) and the PS4 (with a very limited selection of mods) Rather, they’re long-time fans that have been playing for years. The majority of people in this subreddit aren’t newcomers to this game. As such, you won’t know what areas of the game you feel need improvement, what areas are fine as is, etc.Īlso, you shouldn’t feel as though you have to rush. Without playing through a good chunk of the Vanilla game, you won’t have experienced it in its natural state as the developers meant for it to be played. Skyrim is the ice cream sundae, and mods are only the cherry on top. I recommend this for a couple of reasons:Įven without mods, Skyrim is an absolute masterclass of a RPG. Since you mentioned it’s your first time ever playing Skyrim, I’ll give you the same advice I give everyone else in your position play it Vanilla/without mods your first time around.
